A Word of Protest...

Sun Sep 16, 2007, 5:48 PM
  • Mood: Rant
  • Listening to: The sounds of Typing
  • Reading: Night Letters by Robert D
  • Eating: Raspberry White Chocolate Bullets
Something occurred to me a few months ago (no it didn't hurt, this time :XD: )

Australian Deviants will understand what I am ranting about because this is a problem that lies here in the heart of Queensland.

Water restrictions... Level 6 now... The Hinze Dam levels are slowly declining and the restrictions are becoming almost ridiculous at this stage. No hosing on certain days, 4 minute showers, no water the garden with a hose, etc and the list goes on and on and on and on and on (until you get the idea)

The water crisis is costing tax-payers money.. Bills are incurred for excessive water usage and blah blah blah.
:blahblah:

And yet, what is this?!?! Another highrise is built in Surfers Paradise, another multi-level building going on top of a shopping centre. Buildings are finished on a daily basis with more in progress... So all of a sudden the Gold Coast is begginning to look like a miniature Sydney with the amount of concrete that is being put in to replace the gardens that once grew.

Doesn't it strike you as odd that in LEVEL 6 WATER F***ing RESTRICTIONS that NUMEROUS multi-storeyed hotels and corporate buildings are being constructed. These concrete monstrosoties use far more water than a single storey house or unit. And yet the innocent tax-payers keep suffering, paying for more and more water, whilst the STUPID, IGNORANT goverment continues to build for the sake of "tourism".

This redevelopement HAS to cease!!

There's some food for thought for everyone... Now I'm off to work.
Have a great morning, afternoon, evening or dawn wherever you are in the world!!

Well, there's no logic to it.

Suffice to say, Labor's old boy Beattie must've figured it'd be awesome to not deal with the water crisis until it was at the whole "point of no return" status.

I don't really give a shit too much about the water restrictions, but I do agree there's no logic in encouraging excessive tourism or people taking up permanent residence here in Qld. I remember one time it was at about 2000 more people living in Qld per fortnight.

But hey, it's all a bit spastic at the moment. Hopefully they at least have the brains to figure out that more people in Qld equals faster use of water from dams.

When there's money involved, environmental concerns and all logic goe out of the window...

Anyway; turning a beautiful strech of coast into concreteville is never a good idea. Especially in an area where there's already a lot of pressure on the environment and watersupplies as it is.

You've got my vote on stopping it!

o.o! That's an excellent point! I'm not australian, though I hope some day to go there, but wrongs like that don't know borders. You should address this to a city council... or whatever kind of authority you have down there.
:iconjellybeanjunkie:
Yep, they sure are

And my eye is heaps better, it turns out I just had a headache and a bit of eye strain... 2 panadol and 8 hours of sleep later = :D
